Why is the stock market closed today?

NYSE and NASDAQ close for 10 US federal holidays per year and on weekends (Saturday and Sunday). If the market is closed today, the live status above will show the specific reason - holiday name or weekend - along with the next open date and time. On early close days, the market closes at 1:00 PM ET instead of 4:00 PM.

When does the stock market reopen after a holiday?

After a holiday, the market reopens the next business day at 9:30 AM ET. If the holiday falls on a Friday, trading resumes the following Monday. The next open time is shown above when the market is currently closed. Pre-market trading (4:00 AM ET) also resumes on the next business day.

Is the stock market closed on weekends?

Yes - NYSE and NASDAQ are closed every Saturday and Sunday. CME equity futures are also closed from Friday 5:00 PM ET through Sunday 6:00 PM ET. Markets reopen Monday morning with pre-market trading starting at 4:00 AM ET and the regular session at 9:30 AM ET.
