The NYSE and NASDAQ close for 10 federal holidays per year: New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Presidents' Day, Good Friday, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. CME equity index futures (ES, NQ, YM, RTY) trade nearly 24 hours a day, Sunday through Friday. They open Sunday at 5:00 PM Central Time and trade continuously until Friday at 4:00 PM CT, with a one-hour daily maintenance halt from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM CT Monday through Thursday. On early close days, the NYSE and NASDAQ close at 1:00 PM Eastern Time instead of 4:00 PM. Early closes typically occur the day before major holidays - July 3rd (before Independence Day), the day after Thanksgiving, and Christmas Eve. After-hours trading does not occur on early close days.
